This was our last park on the Alaskan Bear watch itinerary, but the only one yet without bears. We started our drive towards Seward around 7:30 in the morning. Seward is located 125 miles south of Anchorage. The drive took us around 3.5 hours – we made stops on the way at various viewpoints along the Seward highway. The views were spectacular spectacular views as we passed between the shorelines of Turnagain Arm and the peaks of the Chugach Mountains. We reached at 11 and checked into the office of the Kenai Fjords National Park Tour.
Around 11:30, we boarded a cruise that took us inside the Kenai Fjords National Park (it is all water and glaciers!) to see abundant wildlife, alpine and tidewater glaciers and breathtaking scenery. It was a 7 hr cruise and we saw a whales, seabirds, stellar sea lions, sea otters and more. A few orcas and humpbacks swam right by our cruise!
The most fascinating part was the thundering sound of chunks of ice breaking off from the Holgate glacier and falling into the water below. We learnt that this phenomenon is called ‘glacier calving’.

We were back to Seward by 6pm and then drove to Anchorage right after. reminiscing the awesome time we had over the past one week. Alaska – you were amazing!
